32 products left, but today nate
Hi friend ๐,
I'm not sure what the future of marketplaces looks like. Yes, they are aggregators, and as I previously stated, I am a big fan of the "aggregators win" argument. However, in today's world, there are too many marketplaces, and there is once again an optimization problem from the end-userโs perspective. I had to buy some personal items yesterday, such as toothpaste, shaving stuff etc. Because of the pricing discrepancies, I purchased these items from three separate marketplaces. Yes, I purchased the lowest options, and as a result, my homepage in my favorite marketplace is now full of toothpastes, because of the fact that I checked but did not purchase from there.
Aside from the marketplace issue, we notice the popularity of D2C businesses. Instead of purchasing from an FMCG firm that specializes in marketing rather than product, we may now purchase from a brand that has extensive knowledge of the product we seek. In that case, we'd have to sign up again and start the procedure over. It is also a barrier for these companies. They don't know how to market their website like these megacorps, and every bump in the user journey reduces the chance of conversion. So we have two issues here. Too many marketplaces that are greedy for D2C brands and have no standard pricing, and too many D2C companies that require you to create a profile and provide payment information. What if someone runs the final step through all of them?
Today, nate is our product.
First of all, what they are attempting is difficult. You download the app and enter your billing information and address only once. Then, while you're shopping, simply share the product detail page of what you wish to buy with nate. Nate charges you and completes the transaction on your behalf. So, first and foremost, you do not need to create an account with the seller, and second, you do not need to share your shopping data with the seller. There are also other use cases, such as gifting a friend whose address you do not know. She will receive the text message, and all she has to do to receive the gift is input her address.
Nate also includes a social layer where you can make lists and share them with your friends. That is why they actively employ influencers. These lists can include things from several sources, allowing you to be as creative as possible. With all of the giants and all of the operational effort, it's obviously a difficult market to handle; and I'm not sure how Nate is doing as a company. Nonetheless, I believe it is a fantastic idea that has the potential to revolutionize the shopping experience. Please let me know if you've used it before!
Weโll talk again tomorrow.
