35 products left, but today tadaa
Hi friend 👋,
I've already mentioned how important it is to focus on principles rather than processes. Principles, in my opinion, should always be established before any processes are developed. Each member of the team contributes to the overall process, and after a few iterations, everything will be in place. But how would you handle things if your team included a new member? Leaders should engage in extensive discourse for the necessary amount of time for principle absorption. However, it doesn't work for the newcomer. She may have a hard time adjusting because she didn't fully grasp the basics. Herein lies the value of not only the processes, but also its documentation.
The question "How do you build your product?" is notoriously difficult to answer. There may be slight variations in how team members respond to that question. And if the newcomer poses that question to everyone on the team, she is going to be very puzzled. Therefore, it is important to have a shared vocabulary for describing your processes as you grow. With the support of product people and business people, today's products provide a fantastic method of documenting processes in great detail.
Today, tadaa is our product.
Tadaa is still in its early stages. What they are attempting is very exciting, but the product is not yet ready because you must remember to go in there. It does not have a board; instead, you execute your processes in the tool and can see where you are with each feature you develop. If the existing team maintains tadaa, it's a terrific piece of work for newcomers. Most of the time, these solutions overlook the fact that not every feature/project/improvement/initiative/epic is the same. Sometimes they are the same size but don't require some of the work, sometimes you do it because you must utilize the team, sometimes it is simply a test, sometimes it only includes the frontend team, sometimes it is an urgent request, sometimes it is a tech debt... I could go on and on, and believe me, it's difficult to find a common path for all of them.
Tadaa has a Slack channel with about 400 members, and I believe they pay close attention. That's why I'm so optimistic about it. It is completely free to check that out and I strongly recommend. Last but not least, if you have a tool that helps you manage your roadmap and procedures, please share it with us in the comments so we can check it out.
We’ll talk again tomorrow.
