Hi friend ๐,
It's been around ten years since I quit my job at Microsoft to start my own company and get rich. Simply said, it was the plan all along. Also, just a couple of years ago, I came upon a video on my Instagram account. In order to have a bird's-eye perspective of Monaco, one of my coworkers from Microsoft rented a helicopter. As I watched the video, the BigMac I was eating took on an entirely new flavor. My idea was a little more utopian, and the name was Grandhive. Everyone around me was obsessed with their CV, and I kept hearing things like, "Should I take that course to get a certificate for my CV?" and so on. So, drafting a CV is difficult for a fresh graduate, and certainly, according to their CVs, everyone enjoyed Algorithms class... In my opinion, the distinction between two people begins when they are imagining about the future. Your ideas about the future already contain all you learned in the past. So, instead of resumes, how about allowing people to write a document outlining their future plans? The concept was to create a Linkedin-like site for recent graduates, but in reverse. It will list userโs future plans on their personal page. And the site will make money by offering training, seminars, and job matching.
The concept sounded appealing, but before discussing it with students, I built a software architecture model to estimate the cost. People who talk about the cloud these days make us giggle, therefore I estimated server purchasing expenses. It was enormous for our budget. So we decided to develop a basic start-up first to make some money, and then Grandhive to get wealthy. It was identical to Elon Musk's vision for Tesla, but on a much limited scale :). Our first step was a f*ck-up story that changed my life, but I gained a lot of worthless information that I can discuss on podcasts. I still believe that those who have specific objectives and plans for the future can have a great life. Today's product exemplifies this perfectly.
Today, Careerist is our product.
Careerist is a platform for people who desire to work in the IT business. Simply choose a path and begin learning about it. They also offer 1:1 mentoring as part of the education process and an internship program. They will also coach you through the job application procedure once you have completed all of them. Careerist, in my opinion, is an excellent illustration of how to utilize the jobs-to-be-done framework. One of the primary jobs of Coursera or Udemy is to help people "find a new job." Careerist concentrates solely on this job for its users and has established a platform around it.
I spent a lot of time reading their success stories on their website. People are changing occupations as well as their lives. It's a difficult and risky decision, but it's also one of the most difficult challenges someone can face. In that aspect, these stories are really inspirational. You probably don't need a careerist, but someone close to you may be looking for a fresh start in her life. It's always a good idea to keep Careerist in mind for recommendations.
Weโll talk again tomorrow.
