65 products left, but today Mesh
Hi friend 👋,
I was fortunate to begin my work with a well-known company. I was a new grad with no experience, and my one-on-ones with my boss were where I learnt the most. I assumed it was a given; if you work in a team, your one-on-ones will always be like this. Unfortunately, it was not the case. Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to work in a variety of firms with varying organizational structures, and I believe that one of the most important things that companies overlook in their structures is not investing in leadership and 1-1 quality. Being a leader entails several things, and I am aware that many styles exist. In my opinion, being a great leader is constantly caring for the personal development areas of the team and knowing their challenges. Leading by example in terms of work ethics and humility, speaking negative things about them or the company directly without taking the easier road, are all difficult but vital parts of the job. I'm not sure how good a leader I am, but I've always felt fortunate to have my team.
We're nearing the end of the year, and it's safe to assume that performance assessments have begun in almost every workplace. Performance evaluation methods do not appear to be a natural element of ongoing communication, which makes me nervous. Suddenly, you're alone with a form in which you judge someone, or you're alone with your manager to listen to all the judgments you got. You have touch with all of these folks over the year, so you shouldn't be startled by the meetups. If there is a surprise, the organization should focus on communication; if there isn't a surprise, why are we having that meeting in an hour to cover last 6 months? So, something is broken in this process, and today's product is also addressing the same oddity.
Today, Mesh is our product.
Making all of these feedback loop concepts a part of daily routines, in my opinion, is one of the best ways to turn them into habits. Mesh does a good job at it. It's not a destination you go every 6-12 months; rather, it's a place where you keep track of yourself and the team. It's also beneficial to have notes in common with your leader that you both agree to work on together. The video explains their key features.
Investing in these company-wide tools has numerous benefits, particularly in this remote-first era. And it provides an excellent platform for important talks. I know it's difficult to be in a constant feedback loop, but if you get used to it, you'll enjoy it. It increases transparency by allowing everyone to see the same picture. It's worth a shot.
We’ll talk again tomorrow.
