Hi friend 👋,
Today is the first day of the challenge! Julie & Julia, a well-known film, served as my inspiration, as most of you may have guessed. For me, chefs have always been an inspiration... Bourdain, Julia Child, and Jacques Pepin… I felt like Julie while watching the movie. A little bit bored, a little bit tired, and in need of something new. Yes, I'm still not very good at cooking at that level, but product discovery? To be honest, it seemed like something I could do easily at first, even though I'm scared now. But we'll have to wait and see. And keep in mind that we're all in this together. So I'm not by myself. We'll have a great time and get to look at some really cool products every day. Hopefully.
Today, Gamma.app is our product.
I've always struggled to find the right tool to document my thoughts or start writing something I'm not sure where it's going to go. Slides are limited; using tables in them is a huge burden. Docs are for pages, and I despise using images (or anything other than sentences) in Docs because aligning them is the worst experience imaginable. I don't want to use the page-like right-to-left margin for something I won't be printing. Every office tool divides content into equal parts; pages, slides, cells... Our thought processes, however, are not like that. Consider a real-world scenario in which we are preparing a battle card for our competitors; feature lists and explanations in a table, a brief introduction to compare our visions. In our office suites, it is impossible to select the appropriate tool for preparing this document.
If that describes you, you'll enjoy Gamma. Because of Notion and all of the new knowledge-base tools, the "block" approach has become extremely popular. Gamma makes it perfect with nested blocks. I used it for a couple of internal documents and was impressed by its simplicity and user-friendly interface.
The main challenge for these tools is to generate a network effect within the organization. Unfortunately, people dislike changing their existing toolbox and are hesitant to adopt new products when their usage frequency is low. Another challenge could be integrating it with other tools in the GSuite or Office365. We all know that Google and Microsoft both enjoy copying promising startups in the workplace. Anyway, I'm sure the founders are considering solutions to these issues as well.
It's free during beta, so I strongly advise you to give it a shot.
We'll talk again tomorrow!
